Rosewood Arts Guild is no more! We started strong, had some great experiences and activities, but interests shifted a couple of years ago and the last two have been of considerable low energy. Paula Bowers is dramatically changing The Art Shack - moving her classes to the studio behind Southern Pottery at 3105 Devine Street and leaving the gallery and restaurant in the capable hands of her brother (excellent food!).
Instead of simply folding, it seemed a great opportunity to merge RAG with The Artists Round Table (ART), an action which, among other things, acknowledges the efforts of many of you who contributed to RAG in its more vital days. ART has many of the same goals that RAG had. ART recently sent out an email announcing the merger to their group. Please go to the ART web site for information regarding ART meetings and events. ART recently organized a members show at Gallary 80808, and has been very active in keeping members informed about opportunitites for artists through emails and the ART web site.
It has been a privilege to work with RAG the last years, getting to know all of you and learning more about the Columbia Art scene. I feel sad to see RAG end, but I believe that continuing this adventure with ART is a great opportunity for the community.

p.s. this web site will remain as is until the contract expires in March 2010.
R A G strives to promote and support local artists by providing a venue for discussion and intellectual development, as well as venues for sharing creative efforts with the community. The Guild welcomes creative individuals interested in all expressive media including visual and object art, music, dance, performance and words. RAG's goal is to weave our community together by providing a resource for artists and by increasing appreciation and support for all arts.
RAG is named for the neighborhoods surrounding Rosewood Drive in Columbia SC, but reaches out to the creative community throughout the Midlands and beyond.
This energetic group of creative people meets to share ideas and inspiration.
May, 2009: RAG is currently minimally active. Started in 2006 in response to interests of area artists, those interests have diverged considerably since. Many initial members have become increasingly active in The Artists Round Table which better serves many of their interests, coordinating area shows and displays. RAG continued intermittent get togethers through 2008 and into 2009, with waning participation. RAG is not dead, but is dormant. This web site is paid for well into 2010. We will likely have 2 or 3 more get togethers this year (advertised through the RAG email list). If you have interests in revitalizing this group, please do not hesitate to contact either Paula Bowers (artshacklady@sc.rr.com) or Richard Vogt (rgvogt00@gmail.com).
